RAPPER J-KWON REASSURES FANS HE’S JUST FINEThe St. Louis rapper and his manager, Keith Matthews, offer explanation about disappearance claims reportedly made by former record label Gracie Productions
March 5, 2010 (DALLAS) – St. Louis native J-Kwon, whose real name is Jerrell Jones, has gone on record to refute news earlier this week that the rapper went missing. J-Kwon and manager, Keith Matthews, maintain that the actions of claiming the rapper’s disappearance were completely independent and did not involve them. The announcement was reportedly made by his former label Gracie Productions.
Claims of the rapper’s disappearance surfaced Wednesday March 3rd declaring the rapper had been missing for nearly 30 days. Upon receiving phone calls from family and friends several hours after his alleged disappearance, J-Kwon along with Matthews immediately began to reassure everyone that he is doing fine. The rapper has since reached out to the St. Louis Police Department in efforts to notify them of the situation and to absolve himself from any wrongdoings.
“Things get taken out of hand,” said J-Kwon. “On top of that, there are other families that are really missing people and my heart goes out to them. I’m not trying to promote anything. I just prayed about it and moved on.”
Fans and supporters made calls and sent e-mails to ask for pray for his safe return. Oblivious to the news, J-Kwon says that he was completely unaware about the situation until his friends and family started to contact him.
“When we were contacted of that situation, we were reaching out to fans and other people that support J-Kwon to let them know it is not real,” said Matthews. “It did not have anything to do with us, it did not come from our camp.”
Matthews offered his insight as to why he feels Gracie Productions reportedly would attempt a stunt like this. “We did a non-exclusive situation with them and then that was it,” Matthews said. “We started off with a good relationship. I think it was a miscommunication when it came to them taking actions on their own. I do not know why they did not reach out to us or to me to do something like that. I was shocked that they did not reach out to me or call someone. They have not returned any phone calls or e-mails, not the management or anyone.”
“At the end of the day, J-Kwon was successful in his career,” Matthews said. “He is an established artist. It did not do anything to enhance his career because he has a good career. There was no reason for them to do that.”
J-Kwon remains consistently focused on his work as he moves past the situation and delves into new projects. Professionally his Hood Hop 2.5 mixtape, which was released in the summer of 2009, continues to gain downloads. He continues to enhance his company Hood Hop Music, and has signed a new pop artist in addition to the artists Gino Green, SOC, and various others. J-Kwon’s “Kwon for Kids Organization” headquartered in St. Louis benefitting homeless children in need has been another major focus for the rapper.
